About Sofia

Italian-American soprano, Sofia Gotch Caruana, has been praised for the “brightness and clarity” of her sound and her “command of style and diction.” An engaging performer, Sofia’s range spans the comedic and ethereal roles, such as Titania, to the emotional intensity and humanity of title roles such as Juliette and Gilda.

From Oakland, CA, Sofia began her performance career studying the music of language in literature and poetry, learning to make deep connections with text and narrative. Today, Sofia finds that her background empowers her performances to sparkle with complexity and vulnerability, bringing characters to life with exceptional nuance and color.

In 2025, Sofia was honored to receive recognition in several esteemed vocal competitions, marking a meaningful chapter in her artistic development. She was named a Semifinalist in the Metropolitan Opera Eric & Dominique Laffont Competition. She was awarded Third Prize in the Gerda Lissner International Vocal Competition, the Giulio Gari International Vocal Competition, and the James Toland Vocal Arts Competition. Additionally, she received an Encouragement Award in the Gerda Lissner/Lieder‑Song Competition. These acknowledgments have been a source of inspiration and growth, encouraging her continued commitment to artistry and expressive vocal performance.

Sofia is exceptionally grateful to have continued her studies in leading young artist programs, where she received intensive training and performed in a wide range of repertoire under the guidance of renowned faculty and guest artists at Classic Lyric Arts (2022 & 2023), the Aspen Music Festival & School (2024 Renée Fleming Fellow), and Merola Opera Program (2025). These immersive programs have offered invaluable opportunities for artistic growth and collaboration.

Alongside her budding performance career, Sofia is a passionate arts administrator, currently holding the title of “Programs & Marketing Manager” for Classic Lyric Arts, a nonprofit arts training program for emerging singers and pianists.
